Job Title

The duties and responsibilities for this position include:

Application Pool Notice Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

Position Requirements

Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, Dean of Arts and Sciences, or Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs and in which the instructor has appropriate qualifications.
• Use up-to-date content and pedagogical skills to ensure active participation and learning by students.

• Perform other duties assigned by the Department Chairperson, Program Director, or Director, respective Dean, Associate Provost (when applicable), Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs, and President.

Additional characteristic duties and responsibilities specific to the position include:

1. Teach courses in the designated discipline in the following modalities: face-to-face (completely on campus) or hybrid (on campus and online).
2. Instructors may be required to teach at Fort McIntosh, South, and high school campuses. Depending on departmental and student needs, instruction may be scheduled during daytime, evening, or weekend hours.
3. Direct library research or other outside assignments.
4. Encourage students to utilize campus resources such as the Library, Tutoring Center, Counseling Center, and other support services.
5. Communicate required course materials to Library and Writing Center staff to support student access and success when needed.
6. Provide a safe learning environment for students and be responsible for securing assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
7. Substitute for colleagues as needed.
8. Follow established procedures for requesting instructional supplies and submitting absence reports promptly.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills include:

• Master's degree in English or Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in English. Graduate coursework hours must be aligned with the course learning outcomes that the instructor will be teaching.
• Teaching experience in Higher Education is preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

• Clear and effective communication is essential for conveying complex ideas to students. Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of varied learners and changing circumstances, such as different class sizes or student backgrounds. Encourage and foster critical thinking skills in students by challenging them to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information. Build rapport with students, foster a positive learning environment, and provide support and guidance when needed.
• Manage course materials, assignments, and assessments efficiently to ensure the smooth running of the course and fair evaluation of students. Be able to address challenges and solve problems that arise in the classroom or with individual students effectively. Be proficient in using technology tools and platforms for teaching, communication, and assessment, especially given the increasing integration of technology in the classroom.
• Understand and adhere to ethical standards in teaching and interactions with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators. Must balance teaching responsibilities with other academic duties and professional development training as requested, which requires strong time management skills.

• Supervision Exercised: Students in the classroom, lab, and/or clinical sites.
• Supervision Received: Department Chairperson, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs, and President.
• Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Safety Required to work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
• Special Conditions: Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
